VersaFit™ Shims:
What They Do
For You and Your Horse
and How to Use Them

Horses come in all shapes and sizes.  Our research observations indicate that VersaFit™ contoured-and-tapered Shims are highly beneficial for every type of horse.  This is true for all English and Western saddles – even those “custom made” or “custom fitted” for a particular horse.  All horses simply move better and more freely when we use the VersaFit™ Shim System and therefore we feel confident that, at the very least, a Thin Shim to free the shoulder is almost always essential for maximized comfort and performance.

The THREE KEY REASONS your saddle needs shims:

  1. Provide crucial shoulder clearance

  2. Eliminate painful contact points that prevent full range of motion

  3. Adjust rider balance as needed.

We’ll guide you step-by-step for YOUR PARTICULAR HORSE and saddle. Our aim is to help you feel confident in fitting your saddle throughout the life of your horse, or to help any other horse in the barn!  Here’s how it works:

  • First we’ll begin by helping you determine your horse’s basic back type.
  • Then we’ll show you how to assess the relative fit of your current saddle.
  • Next we’ll give you specifics on which Shims to use and where to place them.
  • And finally we’ll explain convenient pad interface options which facilitate effectiveness of shims in the best possible way.

It’s really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.  And so – let’s begin!
