VersaFit™ Shims:
What They Do
For You and Your Horse
and How to Use Them

Thank you for taking just a little time to understand why your horse needs VersaFit™ Shims and how you can use them with confidence.  You’ll be amazed at the difference you will see and feel in your horse!

Horses come in all shapes and sizes.  Our research observations indicate that VersaFit™ contoured-and-tapered Shims are highly beneficial for every type of horse.  This is true for all English and Western saddles – even those “custom made” or “custom fitted” for a particular horse.  All horses simply move better and more freely when we use the VersaFit™ Shim System… and therefore we feel confident that, at the very least, a Thin Shim to free the shoulder is almost always essential for maximized comfort and performance.

The THREE PRIORITIES for shimming are:

  • Providing Shoulder Clearance
  • Eliminating Painful Contact Points (Excessive Pressure, Rocking, Bridging)
  • Adjusting Rider Balance if desired

We’ll guide you step-by-step for your particular horse and saddle. Our aim is to help you feel confident in fitting your saddle throughout the life of your horse, or to help any other horse in the barn!  Here’s how it works:

  • First we’ll begin by helping you determine your horse’s basic back type.
  • Then we’ll show you how to assess the relative fit of your current saddle.
  • Next we’ll give you specifics on which Shims to use and where to place them.
  • And finally we’ll explain convenient pad interface options which facilitate effectiveness of shims in the best possible way.

It’s really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.  And so – let’s begin!

FIND YOUR HORSE’S BASIC BACK TYPE

The horse’s back shape makes a difference in determining which Shims to choose and where to put them.  Below is a collection of typical back types.  Find the one most similar to your horse, and click on that image.

NOTE: If you don’t see a body resembling your horse, please send a good profile portrait via the FREE SADDLE FIT EVALUATION. We’ll address your situation and incorporate it in our library so others can learn, too. Our aim is to help you feel confident in fitting your saddle for the life of your horse or any horse in the barn!
